Ghost of Tsushima

9/10

The most beautiful map I've ever just stood still in.

PS5PS4PC

Most open worlds bury you in icons. Tsushima replaces the minimap with the wind — you follow a gust to your next objective — and somehow that one decision makes the whole island feel like a place rather than a checklist. I spent more time pointing the camera at fields of red leaves than I did fighting.

The combat is a stance-dance: read the enemy, switch your footing, commit. Standoffs, where you face down a line of bandits and trade one perfect strike, never stopped feeling cinematic. It's not the deepest swordplay ever made, but it's the most stylish I've played.

Where it wobbles is the open-world scaffolding underneath the beauty — the side content can get samey, and the story plays it safe. But honestly? I didn't care. This is a game about atmosphere, and on that it's untouchable.

What stuck

  • Following the wind instead of a minimap
  • Standoffs — pure cinema, every time
  • Photo mode I actually used unironically

Niggles

  • Side activities repeat
  • A safe, predictable main story
