I have struggled to admit I have a relationship with AI. It entered my life with such force 3 years ago that I still remember the first day I used GPT to write code for me at work and this is the first time I'll admit it in public.

Since that day I have been obsessed with AI and have thought every day about how it will impact my life and the lives of future generations. I contemplate the numerous issues it raises but I believe it is so clearly the most transformative technology of all time that the only thing to do is to embrace and see it for the opportunity it is. I think that our lives are going to change at an accelerating rate because of it.

I studied engineering with management at University and had planned on managing the engineers long after university. Instead whilst interviewing I was asked “What is the difference between verification and validation” and it shaped how I viewed engineering and software development forever. I joined that startup and after a lot of learning also learnt that amazing product and product market fit are very different things.

I used to consider myself a test driven data engineer and loved the beauty of turning a dataset of 10,000 values into one meaningful number. As I worked with AI I began to see words as data that could be computed and the databases and data pipelines I had been building took on a whole new meaning.

I used to love building data dashboards and thinking of creative ways to visualise and understand large datasets, giving maths a user interface. I now feel words can now be treated like data within a system and I see my work with AI as an extension of my data engineering career.

The projects and apps here are a creative outlet for me and they help me to stay accountable.

Outside my 5–9 I am devoted to helping companies transition to an agentic era. I design agentic systems in ServiceNow, Claude and Microsoft Copilot. I train staff on how to operate AI and I develop internal tools.
